social enterprise
/ˈsōSHəl/
/ˈen(t)ərˌprīz/ noun
a social enterprise is a revenue-generating business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to deliver profit to shareholders and owners.*
before coffee exists to support the non-profit and charitable community. but we don't stop there! with every decision we make as an organization, we have the opportunity to do the right thing. we know that you are tired of companies that are detrimental to people and our planet, and that is why we want to show you that we can thrive as a business while taking every opportunity to make a positive impact.
our coffee
Propeller Coffee Co. and Harmony Organic not only provide us with the highest quality ingredients to make a truly exceptional coffee, but they align with our values. much like us, Propeller Coffee Co. is intentional with its business practices. they work directly with their farmers; use energy efficient roasting equipment, green fuel for transportation, and biodegradable packaging; and give back to the community. Harmony Organic puts the wellbeing of its animals first, produces delicious organic milk, and uses reusable packaging to limit waste.
our space
walls
we are grateful for the land on which we will organize our business and acknowledge that it is the traditional territory of many nations. we would like to use our space to share and celebrate Indigenous art and culture. if you are an Indigenous artist and would like to share your work, please click below and say hello!
music
if you're a local artist and want your music to be heard, we would love to play it! it is an admirable and challenging career to be a musician and if we can support our local artists, even in this small way, we will. click below to submit a Spotify link to your music to be played in our coffeehouse.
furniture
we want our space to feel warm, cozy, and safe for everyone. by using upcycled furniture, we can reduce our environmental footprint while creating a space that is as welcoming as your living room (or Central Perk if that's your jam). if you have furniture you are looking to give a new home, please reach out by clicking the arrow below.
our people
we are committed to doing our part in alleviating the negative impact of systemic barriers to employment. we know there are amazing people who are struggling to find work due to barriers such as learning and/or physical disabilities, criminal records, homelessness, and systemic marginalization. we look beyond these barriers to help give people an equal shot at work while giving us an equal shot at finding the best people to build our team.
